Kharkiv is the second-largest city in Ukraine, located in the northeastern part of the country at the confluence of the Udy, Lopan, and Kharkiv rivers. The city is the administrative center of the Kharkiv Oblast and a major industrial, educational, scientific, and cultural hub. Kharkiv's population is around 1.4 million people. Kharkiv was founded around 1655 as a military fortress. In the 19th century, it became a center of Ukrainian cultural revival, and in the early 20th century, it experienced exceptional development in literature, theater, and science. Since 2022, Kharkiv has held the title of "Hero City of Ukraine".
