Vinnytsia
City of Ukraine
Vinnytsia is a city in the central part of Ukraine, located on the banks of the Southern Bug River, and is the administrative center of Vinnytsia Oblast. The city covers an area of 140 km² and as of July 2025, its population is approximately 399 thousand people, including internally displaced persons.
The history of Vinnytsia begins around 1363 with the establishment of a wooden fortress on a high cliff. The city is known as a significant historical center of eastern Podillia and served three times as the temporary capital of the Ukrainian People's Republic between 1918 and 1920.
