Rivne is a city of regional significance located in the northwestern part of Ukraine on the Ustia River. The city's area is 71 km², and its population as of 2025 is estimated at 249,477 people. The first written mention of Rivne dates back to 1283. The city received Magdeburg rights in 1492. Throughout its history, the city was under the rule of various states, including the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Rivne was the capital of Ukraine three times. An impressive network of underground tunnels runs beneath the city, which, according to legends, were used for secret meetings and shelter.
