Transcontinental state
Turkey is a transcontinental country. Its capital is Ankara, and Istanbul is the largest city and economic center. Turkey is officially a Muslim-majority state. The modern Republic of Turkey was founded in 1923 as the successor state to the Ottoman Empire. Turkey ranks first in the world in the production of hazelnuts, cherries, figs, apricots, quinces, and poppies.
