Dnipro is located in the central part of Ukraine on both banks of the middle course of the Dnipro River, in the steppe zone. The city's area is 409.72 square kilometers, and its population is estimated at 920,000 people at the beginning of 2025.
Founded in 1776 as Katerynoslav, the city was closed for a long time due to its developed military, nuclear, and space industries. It is known as the "space capital" of Ukraine and is a major center for machine building, metallurgy, and rocket production.
