Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is a Russian statesman and political figure, a former Soviet intelligence officer. He is the current President of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Putin's rule is characterized by the suppression of freedom of speech and opposition in Russia. In particular, independent activists and journalists have been killed or persecuted.
During his rule, Russia participated in the Second Chechen War (1999-2009), the war in Syria (2015-2024), and aggression against Ukraine (2014 and 2022).
