Israel is a country in Western Asia, located on the southeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea and the northern shore of the Red Sea. Its territory is 22,072 km², and its population in 2021 was 9.291 million people. The capital of Israel is Jerusalem. Not all states recognize this city as the capital, which is why many embassies are located in Tel Aviv. The history of the Jewish people in this land spans over three thousand years. The modern State of Israel was proclaimed on May 14, 1948, after the end of the British Mandate in Palestine. This event led to the Arab-Israeli War, as neighboring Arab countries did not recognize the newly formed state. The conflict remains unresolved to this day.
