Details
Israel has announced the launch of tourist tours in the buffer zone of the Golan, recently captured by Israel in Syria. The trips are organized by the 210th Division of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Golan Regional Council, the Keshet Yehonatan Religious Education Center, the Golani Environmental Field School, and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, Yediot Ahronot newspaper reports.
Visitors will be able to travel through Syrian territory for a distance of up to 2.5 km. This area was forbidden to be visited by civilian tourists until the IDF captured the Golan buffer zone after the fall of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad in December 2024. We also remind that Israel occupied the Golan Heights in 1967 and has since controlled hundreds of square kilometers of Syria.

It should be noted that the route of the proposed tourist tour includes the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, which overlooks Damascus, as well as the Shebaa farms at the foot of the mountain. The latter is a strip of territory that is considered the site of God's covenant with Abraham. These places, which previously belonged to Lebanon, have been a hotspot of violence for decades, involving Hezbollah and the IDF.
Returning to the itinerary of the tourist tour, it should be noted that visitors are offered to visit the Rukad River Valley, which flows into the Yarmuk on the border with Jordan. There is also an opportunity to see parts of the abandoned Ottoman Hejaz Railway, which connected the capital of the Ottoman Empire with Haifa, Nablus and holy sites in modern Saudi Arabia.

Hundreds of Israeli reservists have called on the government to reach a deal with Hamas to return the hostages, even if it means ending the war in Gaza.
