Poltava is a city in central Ukraine, the administrative center of Poltava Oblast. Located on the Dnieper Lowland, on the Vorskla River, it covers an area of 122 km² with a population of 294,695 people as of 2023. The city has been known since 1174 under the name Ltava, but according to archaeological data, its foundation dates back to 899. Poltava is an important cultural center and a major transport hub. Throughout its history, the city has developed, preserving the unique architectural ensemble of Round Square and playing a prominent role in the cultural and socio-political life of Ukraine.
