Berlin is the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany and a separate federal state. The city is located in the east of the country. Berlin is the largest city in the country by population, which at the end of 2024 was about 3.68 million people.
Berlin is an important political, informational, cultural, and scientific center of Europe, as well as a major transport hub. The city has a rich and complex history, has repeatedly become the main city of German state formations, including the Kingdom of Prussia and the German Empire, and since the reunification of Germany in 1990, it has been the all-German capital.
