Cradle of Donbas, industrial center
Lysychansk is the administrative center of the Lysychansk urban hromada in the Sievierodonetsk Raion of Luhansk Oblast, located on the right bank of the Siverskyi Donets River. The city's area is 95.64 km², and its population as of January 2022 was 93,340 people, making it one of the oldest cities in eastern Ukraine. The history of Lysychansk dates back to 1710, when the city was founded, later becoming known as the cradle of Donbas. In 1795, the first coal mine was opened here, marking the beginning of industrial coal mining, and by the end of the 19th century, the city became an important center for the chemical and glass industries.
