Trump administration extended sanctions waiver for Russian Lukoil

The administration of US President Donald Trump has extended a permit allowing Lukoil's retail gas stations to operate outside Russia until the end of October, a narrow exception to the sanctions imposed by the US last year to limit revenues supporting Moscow's war in Ukraine, Reuters reports, writes UNN.

The permit for approximately 2,000 stations in Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and North and South America has been extended until October 29, the US Treasury Department announced on its website on Tuesday.

US President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on two of Russia's largest oil companies, Lukoil and Rosneft, in October, which sparked interest from potential buyers of Lukoil's international assets worth about $22 billion.

Lukoil owns approximately 200 branded gas stations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York in the US. It is one of the largest retail sellers of automotive fuel in Moldova and Bulgaria and operates approximately 600 stations in Turkey and more than 300 in Romania.

The US Treasury Department also issued a license allowing certain operations with Lukoil's oil refineries in Bulgaria, including Lukoil Neftochim Burgas AD.
