European NATO allies are trying to develop a new approach to cooperation with the US amid President Donald Trump's unpredictable decisions regarding the Alliance and the American military presence in Europe. This was reported by Politico following the GLOBSEC forum in Prague, according to UNN.

The cause of the new wave of concern was Washington's decision to cancel the planned deployment of 4,000 American troops to Poland. According to Politico, this caused a "significant political and psychological shock" in Warsaw. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski called the situation a "misunderstanding," but acknowledged that allies are increasingly facing uncertainty from the US.

Czech President Petr Pavel stated that the problem lies not only in the possible reduction of troops but also in the lack of coordination with NATO.
"Allies were previously informed" about such changes, but Washington's current decisions were made virtually without consultation, he emphasized.
Against this backdrop, discussions have intensified in Europe regarding the need to strengthen its own defense capabilities. German MP Johann Wadephul stated that Berlin is working on creating a "new, strong defense capability for Europe," acknowledging that the US is increasingly focusing on China and the Indo-Pacific region.
At the same time, some European countries continue to insist on purchasing American weapons due to the Russian threat. Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson stated that his main task is to "get weapons into the hands of the military," regardless of whether they are of European, American, or Asian manufacture. It is expected that the issue of the US role and the future of Europe's defense policy will be one of the main topics of the NATO summit in Ankara in July.
