Marine Le Pen
French far-right politician
Marion Anne Perrine Le Pen was born on August 5, 1968, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, into the family of Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder of the National Front. She obtained a law degree from Panthéon-Assas University and practiced law until embarking on an active political career.
The leader of France’s far right, she ran for president of France three times—in 2012, 2017, and 2022—reaching the runoff twice. She carried out a sweeping transformation of the party: renaming the National Front the National Rally and attempting to move away from her father’s overt racism while retaining a hard-line anti-immigration rhetoric. In 2025, she was convicted by a French court of misappropriating EU funds, threatening her participation in the 2027 presidential election. She is known for her pro-Russian sympathies and opposition to support for Ukraine.
