The leader of the French party "National Rally" Marine Le Pen has been found guilty of embezzling state funds. Eight other MEPs are also involved in the case.

Marine Le Pen and 8 members of the European Parliament were found guilty of embezzling state funds in the case of parliamentary assistants of the National Association. Marine Le Pen faces imprisonment and disqualification from elections.

The leader of the French nationalist political party National Rally (FN), Marine Le Pen, was found guilty of embezzling state funds.

Eight MEPs were also found guilty of embezzling public funds in the relevant case. As noted, the sentences will be detailed separately, but are not yet known.
Context
Marine Le Pen, who has nominated her candidacy for the 2027 presidential race, is accused of misusing money from the European Parliament to pay salaries to her party members - about 3 million euros.
In November last year, the prosecutor's office requested a five-year prison term for Marine Le Pen with the possibility of its execution (which can be applied immediately, even in case of appeal), as well as five years in prison, two of which with a final verdict (with the possibility of reducing the term), and a fine of 300,000 euros.
Reminder
UNN reported that the conviction of Marine Le Pen may deprive her of the right to run in the 2027 presidential election and affect the support of the National Association.
