Ukraine agreed with creditors on a deferral of state debt payments until 2030

Ukraine and the Group of Official Creditors have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on deferring payments on state and state-guaranteed debt. This was reported by the Ministry of Finance, writes UNN.

Details

The document was signed by Minister of Finance Serhiy Marchenko and authorized representatives of creditor countries, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, Great Britain, the USA, and the Republic of Korea.

The Memorandum extends previous agreements from 2022 and 2023 and is an important element of international financial support for Ukraine

- the statement reads.

The document provides for the deferral of payments on state and state-guaranteed debt due in the period from February 2026. According to the Memorandum, debt servicing and repayment will be deferred until the end of February 2030, which is consistent with the new International Monetary Fund program.

The deferred amounts will be paid after the end of this period in equal semi-annual payments during 2035–2039, with capitalized interest.

Marchenko thanked international partners and called this decision "critically important for Ukraine," as it significantly reduces the debt burden on the state budget.

Deferring payments creates an opportunity to direct the released financial resources to the state's priority needs, including financing defense, social sphere, and economic recovery

- Marchenko noted.
