As part of today's exchange, military personnel and civilians who had been held captive since 2022 were returned. Also, 25 officers, whom the Russian side had previously categorically refused to exchange, and 40 military personnel from the Ministry of Internal Affairs system were released. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.

Details

Today, on the eve of the bright Easter holiday, the 72nd prisoner exchange took place. As a result of the negotiation process, the Coordination Headquarters, on behalf of the President of Ukraine, returned 175 servicemen and 7 civilian citizens of Ukraine from Russian captivity. The peculiarity of today's exchange is that almost all released prisoners - both military and civilian - had been held captive since 2022

- the statement said.

The headquarters also reported that 25 officers, whom the Russian side had previously categorically refused to exchange, were also released. Most of the defenders released today were captured during the defense of Mariupol. Several servicemen of the National Guard, enslaved during the occupation of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the first days of the full-scale invasion, are also returning home.

The youngest released is 22 years old, the oldest is 63 years old. In total, among the military released today are representatives of the Naval Forces, Ground Forces, Territorial Defense, Airborne Assault Forces, Military Law Enforcement Service, Air Forces, State Border Guard Service, as well as the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Border Guard Service. Also, 7 civilian citizens of Ukraine, who were enslaved by the Russian occupation forces back in 2022, returned to their native land today

- added the headquarters.

It is noted that all those released from captivity will undergo a medical examination, receive treatment, be provided with everything necessary for the first time, receive due payments, and undergo rehabilitation and reintegration into society after a long isolation in Russian captivity.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported that among those returned are 40 military personnel from the Ministry of Internal Affairs system: National Guardsmen and border guards of officer, sergeant, and private ranks. Most of them had been in enemy captivity since 2022.

We will take care of each of them. Ahead is examination, if necessary - treatment and rehabilitation. We know that many of them have health problems, so we will do everything necessary to help them recover after what they have experienced. Today's exchange is the result of systematic and mostly non-public work that continues uninterruptedly

- Klymenko wrote.
