The Guardia Civil arrested former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales after he landed at Madrid's Adolfo Suarez airport on Wednesday on a flight from the Dominican Republic, where he had been on a business trip. "After his arrest, Rubiales was transferred to the premises of the Armed Institute in T-4, where he was fingerprinted and read his rights as a detainee in the presence of his lawyers," the Spanish newspaper writes.

It is indicated that Rubiales is under investigation on suspicion of entering into illegal contracts during his five-year presidency at RFEF.

The alleged crimes in this case include corruption in business transactions, maladministration and money laundering.

Two weeks ago, investigators had already searched the association's headquarters and Rubiales' home in Granada, southern Spain. According to the Cadena Ser radio station, Guardia civilian police officers also flew to the Dominican Republic to search Rubiales' home.
