Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk, playing for Girona in the Spanish La Liga, crosses the 16-goal mark. He now becomes the second Ukrainian after Andriy Shevchenko to score more than 15 goals in the world's top championships.
Ukrainian national team striker Artem Dovbyk is playing a key role in Girona's achievement of the top of the Spanish football championship table. Having scored 16 goals, Dovbyk became the second Ukrainian to score more than 15 goals in the world's top championships, UNN reports with reference to the Spanish edition of Sport.
It has been a long time since Ukraine has had a striker of Artem Dovbyk's caliber. The Girona striker made a late football explosion, but at 26 years old he is one of the most attractive players in Europe, so much so that he has topped the La Liga scoring chart.
"Girona won a nice victory over Real Betis to consolidate its position in third place in the league and dream of a ticket to the next Champions League draw. The victory, in which Artem Dovbyk was a key striker, continues the Spanish sports media.
This season, the 26-year-old striker has scored 16 goals and provided five assists in 28 matches in the Spanish league .
It will be recalled that former Ukraine forward Andriy Shevchenko set a record by scoring 24 goals in Serie A. In the 1999/2000 and 2003/04 seasons, the Ukrainian twice became the top scorer in the Italian championship.
Interestingly, Shevchenko was the coach of the Ukrainian national team who gave Dobvyk the opportunity to make his debut for the national team at the age of 23.
