“The President reaffirmed his commitment to Israel's security against all threats from Iran, including its proxy terrorist groups Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis,” the press release reads.
Biden also discussed efforts to support Israel's defense against threats from ballistic missiles and drones, including a new deployment of U.S. troops.
The White House writes that Biden and US Vice President Kamala Harris called on Netanyahu to de-escalate rather than increase tensions in the region. At the same time, Biden believes that the death of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh will not contribute to the ceasefire in Gaza, which was negotiated under US mediation in recent weeks.
According to Reuters, Biden said this at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, where a plane with prisoners released by Russia the day before landed late.
