EU calls on Mexico to arrest Putin if he comes to new president's inauguration

The European Commission has called on Mexico to arrest Putin if he attends the inauguration of the new president. As a member of the ICC, Mexico is legally obliged to execute an international arrest warrant.
The European Commission has called on the Mexican government to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he attends the inauguration of newly elected President Claudia Sheinbaum. This was stated by EU foreign affairs spokesman Peter Stano in an interview with Euractiv, UNN reports.

According to him, Mexico's membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC) means that it is legally obliged to arrest Putin if he accepts the invitation to Sheinbaum's inauguration ceremony in Mexico City on October 1.
Mexico has been a state party to the ICC since 2005, with all the legal obligations that come with it. Therefore, we believe that Mexico will fulfill its obligations as a member of the ICC,
He added that Mexico participated in a peace summit in Switzerland in June, where "a consensus was reached that Russia must end its war against Ukraine," and that "in subsequent UN votes, Mexico...joined the overwhelming majority of the international community in condemning Russian aggression and calling on Russia to stop it.
At the same time, Stano recognized that "Mexico, like all other countries, has the right to develop its international relations in accordance with its own interests.
