Mexico invites Putin to inauguration of new president

Mexico has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the inauguration of newly elected President Claudia Sheinbaum. The celebrations are scheduled for October 1. This was reported by Reutersand UNN.

It is noted that  Putin has received an invitation to attend the inauguration of President Claudia Sheinbaum, which will take place on October 1.

The Mexican Embassy in Russia noted that Putin will decide later  whether he will participate in the ceremony himself or appoint another senior official to do so on his behalf.

The publication adds that the Mexican Foreign Ministry said that invitations were sent to all countries with which the country had relations, as well as international organizations of which it is a member.

As you know, in March 2023, the International Criminal Court accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of war crimes in Ukraine and issued an arrest warrant.

Since then, Putin has avoided visiting countries that have ratified the Rome Statute. The Russian leader's visit to Turkey has been constantly postponed, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov flew to the BRICS summit in South Africa instead of Putin.

It should be noted that Mexico ratified the Rome Statute back in 2005. Based on this, Mexico should arrest Putin upon his arrival in the country.
