Budanov reminded of the mass murder of prisoners in Olenivka four years ago

Four years ago, on the night of July 28-29, 2022, Russian occupiers committed a deliberate war crime and terrorist act against Ukrainian prisoners of war - the mass murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Olenivka. This was reported by UNN with reference to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov.

Details

The crime occurred on the territory of the former Volnovakha Correctional Colony No. 120 in the occupied settlement of Olenivka, Donetsk region. As a result of terrorist acts and explosions in the barracks, at least 50 Ukrainian defenders were killed (49 individuals identified), and more than 130 were wounded.

The victims of the occupiers were mainly the defenders of Mariupol who left the Azovstal plant. Among them were fighters of the Azov regiment, marines, and border guards.

This cynical act of terror will never be forgotten and will not go unpunished. We honor the memory of all Ukrainian military and civilians whose lives were cut short in Russian torture chambers due to torture and inhuman conditions. Our people still remain in Russian captivity. The return of all defenders and civilians home is an unconditional priority and daily work. We fight for each one and will not stop until we bring everyone back from captivity

The European Council adopted a decision to impose sanctions against 15 individuals and one organization responsible for serious human rights violations against Ukrainian prisoners of war and detained civilians both in the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine and in Russia.
