Trump threatened France with 100% tariffs on wine over digital tax – Macron refused to back down

French President Emmanuel Macron has refused to scrap the country's digital tax after Donald Trump threatened to impose new tariffs on French wine. This could lead to a confrontation between the two leaders during the G7 summit in Evian. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.

Details

"This digital tax, which several European countries have adopted and implemented, is part of our legislation," Macron said on TF1 television during the G7 summit.

"It is not the US that determines European or French laws — this is normal, and it will continue to be so, at least as long as I am in office," he added.

Earlier, Trump told the New York Post that the US would "have no choice" but to impose 100 percent tariffs on French wines if France does not scrap the digital tax for American tech companies.

"We will have a respectful but firm conversation," Macron said.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment on Macron's reaction and provided no further comment regarding Trump's threats.

Recall

As UNN previously reported, at the latest G7 summit, Macron is promoting the idea of Europe's strategic autonomy. However, the real results of his vision remain limited.
