Ukraine's Security Service detained an FSB agent who was trying to collect intelligence on Ukrainian air defense positions near Avdiivka, Donetsk region, to help Russian troops bypass Ukrainian air defense systems.

Ukraine's Security Service detained an FSB agent who was trying to track down Ukrainian air defense locations near Avdiivka in Donetsk region, the SBU reported on Monday, UNN reported.

"As a result of a special operation, an FSB agent was detained who was reconnoitering the combat positions of Ukrainian air defense in the Avdiivka sector," the SBU said.

The suspect, as indicated, was a local resident who was wanted for fraud and theft. "To avoid punishment for these crimes, in the summer of 2023, the woman fled to Zhytomyr region. Hiding in a rented house, she actively communicated in chats on Russian Telegram channels, where she tried to find income," the SBU said.

"Thus, the offender came to the attention of the Russian special service. Later, she was remotely recruited by an FSB officer identified by the SBU. On his instructions, the agent resumed her communication with former fellow villagers in Donetsk region to receive "necessary" information from them in the dark," the SBU said.

It was established that the traitor tried to find out about the facts of the work of Ukrainian air defense during the air attacks of the Nazis under the guise of domestic conversations on the phone. "In case of "confirmation", she then asked about the approximate basing of the firing positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's anti-aircraft missile systems," the special service said.

According to the SBU, the occupiers needed the intelligence to "bypass" Ukrainian air defense on the eastern front.

However, the SBU prevented the enemy's plans. "Having exposed the Russian agent in advance, the SBU officers gradually documented her criminal actions and took measures to secure the air defense. At the final stage of the special operation, the suspect was detained in a temporary residence," the SBU said.

She was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The attacker is in custody. She faces life imprisonment.
