The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian Federation has resumed drone attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine near the Romanian border. One of the drones, tracked by radars in the southern part of Galați, entered Romanian airspace and crashed into the roof of a residential high-rise building, after which a fire broke out.
According to rescue services, an explosion occurred in a tenth-floor apartment following the impact. Two residents sustained injuries and received medical assistance. Approximately 70 residents of the building were evacuated for safety.
In response to the airspace violation, Romania scrambled combat aircraft, including F-16 fighter jets. The incident is one of the most serious cases of Russian drones entering the territory of a NATO member state and the first to result in civilian injuries.
