Russian drone likely attacked NATO country: two people injured in Romania

In the Romanian city of Galați, a drone, which according to preliminary data could have been Russian, crashed into a residential high-rise building, injuring two civilians. This was reported by ASTRA with reference to local authorities and the results of OSINT analysis, according to UNN.

The incident occurred on the night of May 29. After the strike on the building on Brăilei Street, an explosion and fire broke out in an apartment on the tenth floor. Two people sustained minor injuries and received medical assistance on the spot. According to ASTRA, this could be another case where civilians on the territory of a NATO member state were affected by a drone crash linked to Russian attacks.

Project analysts established that a residential building at Strada Brăilei 50 in Galați was damaged.

Later, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of Romania officially confirmed information about two injured residents of the building in Galați after the drone strike. Additionally, 70 residents of the high-rise were evacuated.

The agency's report states that after the drone fell, an explosion and fire occurred in an apartment on the tenth floor. Specialists determined that the drone's entire explosive charge detonated.

Previously, debris from Russian drones has been repeatedly found on Romanian territory during Russian attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure near the border; however, there had been no reports of casualties until now.

Romania shares about 650 kilometers of border with Ukraine and is a member of the European Union and NATO. Against the backdrop of regular incidents involving violations of the country's airspace, last year the Romanian Ministry of Defense advocated for granting the military the right to shoot down drones that illegally enter the state's territory.
