The Security Service of Ukraine has detained two agents of the Russian special services. One of them turned out to be an IT specialist from the Cherkasy region who created new channels for the enemy to recruit local residents. This was reported by UNN with reference to the SBU.

Details

According to the investigation, the suspect registered mobile numbers of Ukrainian operators to create fake accounts on social networks.

He then handed over the ready-made accounts to Russian intelligence officers to conduct recruitment operations allegedly on behalf of Ukrainian citizens.

In addition, the suspect opened online accounts in the names of strawmen, which the Russians planned to use for the covert financing of agent networks. To do this, he sought out drug addicts and the unemployed who, for a one-time monetary reward, agreed to provide him with their personal details.

The IT specialist personally selected potential "candidates" for recruitment and passed their contacts to the FSB. SBU counterintelligence documented how the suspect helped the Russian special service "reach out" to an unemployed resident of the Rivne region. On the instructions of the Rashists, the "newly minted" agent adjusted Russian air attacks on the western region of Ukraine. To carry out the enemy task, he marked the geolocations of the Defense Forces on Google Maps and sent them via messenger to an FSB handler,
