Latvia handed Russia a note of protest after a Russian airstrike destroyed the building of the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Sloviansk. During the attack, two consulate employees were injured, while the honorary consul was unharmed. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, writes UNN.

According to the Latvian Foreign Ministry, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the consulate building in Donetsk region was hit by a Russian guided aerial bomb KAB-250.
The Honorary Consul of Latvia, Oleksandr Pavenko, was not injured in the attack. Two consulate employees were wounded
Latvia called for increased pressure on Russia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it maintains constant communication with the honorary consul and Ukrainian authorities to clarify all circumstances of the incident and provide assistance to the victims.

Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže informed colleagues from EU countries, NATO, and international organizations about the attack. On the same day, Latvia summoned the Russian embassy's chargé d'affaires and handed him a note of protest, condemning the strike on Sloviansk and the destruction of the consulate building.
Riga stated continued support for Ukraine
The Latvian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the country will continue to support Ukraine and call for increased sanctions pressure on Russia, as well as for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities, including through the provision of military aid and air defense systems.
The ministry also stated that Russia must be held accountable for violations of international law, and all war crimes must be thoroughly investigated. Despite the attack, Latvian diplomats and honorary consuls will continue to work in Ukraine.
