A meeting of around 30 countries will take place in Brussels to plan a "coalition of the willing" to support Ukraine's defense. The defense ministers of Great Britain and France will lead the meeting.

In Brussels, a "coalition of the willing" is gathering: the meeting will focus on supporting the long-term defense and security of Ukraine.

British Defence Secretary John Healey and his French counterpart, Minister Sébastien Lecornu, will host a meeting involving around 30 countries involved in planning a "coalition of the willing" in Brussels. This is stated on the website of the British government, writes UNN.

Details

It is noted that the meetings will focus on how best to use the capabilities of each country within the Coalition to support the long-term defence and security of Ukraine.

The Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Defence have repeatedly stated that credible security guarantees are needed to deter Russian aggression in order to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine. The United Kingdom is actively engaged in leading international support to help Ukraine continue to fight and ensure the best conditions for achieving peace.

It is noted that this meeting will take place after the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, together with French military leaders, visited Kyiv last week to meet with President Zelenskyy, Defence Minister Umerov and Ukrainian military leaders to update and discuss plans.

Addition

On 12 April, the UK Defence Secretary and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius will co-chair the 27th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, attended by around 50 countries, to facilitate further military support for Ukraine in the face of ongoing Russian attacks.

The UK initiated and first led the group in its new format in February, with 46 countries participating and raising an additional €1.5 billion in military aid for Ukraine. These new meetings come after the UK has set a course to spend 2.5% of GDP on defence from 2027 and increase defence spending by £5 billion for this financial year, implementing the government's Plan for Change.

This work delivers on the Prime Minister's four-point plan to support Ukraine, including increasing the supply of arms and equipment, strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities in the long term, working with allies to develop credible security guarantees and continuing to put pressure on Putin.
