Kherson
Port city on the Dnipro
Kherson is the administrative center of the Kherson Oblast, located on the right bank of the Dnipro River. The city's area is 135.7 km². As of March 1, 2015, the population of Kherson was 296,161 people. Kherson was founded in 1778 as a fortress and port, playing a key role in the development of shipbuilding and trade in the Black Sea region. The city is known as the country's “fruit basket” due to significant agricultural production. From early March 2022, the city was under temporary Russian occupation, but on November 11, 2022, during a counteroffensive, Kherson was liberated by Ukrainian forces.
