President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska took part in the presentation of the exhibition "Ivan Marchuk. Museum Collections" at the "Chocolate House" Art Center. This was reported by UNN with reference to a report from the official website of the Head of State.

Details

It is noted that the exhibition features works by Ivan Marchuk from the collections of 11 museum institutions in Kyiv, Lviv, Sumy, Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Kaniv, dating from the late 1960s to the present day. The project is complemented by an immersive projection that brings the subjects of Ivan Marchuk's works to life, as well as little-known archival materials about the artist's life and work.

The President thanked Ivan Marchuk for everything he has done for Ukraine, for the works that inspire Ukrainians and reveal the unique characteristics of our country to the world, and congratulated him on his birthday, which the artist celebrated on May 12.

"We all understand that Ivan Stepanovych fought all his life to be himself—first against bureaucracy, then censorship. Just as today our entire state is fighting to be itself. And I am confident that Ivan Stepanovych won his struggle. And our entire Ukraine will win its own,"

the Head of State emphasized.

He thanked the organizers of the exhibition and all the museums that provided Ivan Marchuk's works.

"This is a permanent exhibition. And I am sure it is a great joy for those who have not yet seen Marchuk's work,"

the President noted.

The Head of State honored Ivan Marchuk with the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 5th Class.

Background

Ivan Marchuk is one of the most famous representatives of contemporary Ukrainian art, working in a unique painting technique called "pliontanism." In total, the artist has created about 5,000 works and held over 200 exhibitions (more than 150 solo ones) across five continents.

As a reminder

Scientists from the "Leonardo da Vinci Project" are collecting microscopic DNA traces from the artist's manuscripts and works. The paint on the paintings could have preserved DNA for hundreds of years.
