The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which monitors shipping, reported that on Sunday, two vessels were struck by projectiles off the coasts of Oman and the United Arab Emirates, reports UNN citing CNN.

Details

The incident off the coast of the UAE occurred around 6:30 PM Eastern Time on Sunday, according to the UKMTO report.

"The ship's captain reports being hit by an unknown projectile that damaged the rudder," the UKMTO report states. "All crew members are reported to be safe. There is no environmental impact. Authorities are investigating."

On Monday, UKMTO also reported that it had reclassified an incident that occurred on Sunday with another vessel off the coast of Oman as an attack. The vessel is now adrift and on fire after being "hit by an unknown projectile."

"The crew safely abandoned the vessel," the UKMTO report states. "The fire is not extinguished, and the vessel is currently adrift. No environmental impact has been recorded."

Addendum

UKMTO monitors shipping in the Persian Gulf, the northern Indian Ocean, and the Red Sea. Since the war with Iran has disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz since late February, the group has been receiving a large number of emergency calls from vessels.
