Shmyhal: It is important for Ukraine to intensify cooperation with partners on decentralization of the energy system

The government is working in three areas to address energy problems: rapid repair and restoration of facilities, decentralization of the energy system through small cogeneration plants and cooperation with partners, and strengthening air defense of critical infrastructure.
Energy is a priority area of the government's work and a major challenge. It is important to intensify cooperation with partners at the regional level to decentralize the energy system. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine, UNN reports with reference to the Government Portal.
Mr. Shmyhal noted that the work is going on in three directions.
"The first is quick repairs and restoration of generation and distribution facilities. Repairs are carried out 24/7. We are grateful to our power engineers. We are constantly coordinating our needs. Two days ago, we spoke with the G7 ambassadors. We have the support of Lithuania, which is supplying much-needed equipment, in particular for our thermal power plants. We are talking to all our partners," Shmyhal said and added that the government is working on increasing the capacity to import electricity from the EU to 2.2 GW.

According to him, the second area is the decentralization of the energy system.
The Prime Minister said that there are already more than 120 small cogeneration units.
"Of course, this is not enough. It is important to intensify cooperation with partners in this area at the regional level," emphasized Shmyhal.
Mr. Shmyhal said that the third area is to strengthen air defense. In particular, the Government has adopted a decision that will allow financing the purchase of electronic warfare for critical infrastructure facilities.
Another global challenge for the state today is the construction of defense borders. According to the Prime Minister, on the instructions of the President, the government decided to allocate another UAH 3.88 billion for fortifications. In total, almost UAH 30 billion has been allocated since the beginning of the year.
"Also today, a decision was made that will allow Ukrzaliznytsia to transport concrete components for the construction of fortifications on a priority basis. This will make it possible to significantly accelerate the arrangement of our defense borders," Shmyhal said.
