Alar Karis called for strengthening sanctions against Russian energy resources and for barring the aggressor from sports. He described the attacks on Ukraine as an act of desperation by the Kremlin.
Estonian President Alar Karis stated the need to further strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia and prevent the aggressor country from returning to international sporting and cultural life.
He said this during a joint media briefing with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reports UNN.

According to Karis, the pressure on Russia must only increase.
"This pressure must grow. This means complying with existing sanctions and imposing stronger sanctions on Russian energy resources and their transportation,"
The President of Estonia also emphasized that the international community must not facilitate Russia's return to normal international life as long as it continues its war against Ukraine.
"Russians are trying to gradually slip back into international sports and culture to weaken negative sentiments towards them instead of acknowledging and bearing responsibility for the actions of their leaders,"
He added that Russia's recent massive attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine may indicate not only attempts to intimidate the population but also the Kremlin's weakness.
"Russia's recent missile strikes against civilians and civilian objects can be interpreted as an attempt to destabilize society, but it can also be seen as an act of desperation,"

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that he is in Tallinn today for the Ukraine-Nordic-Baltic (NB8) summit and has already begun bilateral meetings.
