A failure in the national power system occurred around 08:00 local time. It is known that the outages affected the capital of the country, as well as the cities of Batumi, Kutaisi, and a number of other settlements.

In Tbilisi, the metro was shut down, problems arose with train traffic, and water supply interruptions began due to the shutdown of pumping stations. Unstable mobile internet operation was also reported.

The process of restoring electricity supply has already begun - in some areas of Tbilisi, power appeared half an hour after the failure.

The current blackout occurred less than 30 hours after the previous accident, which plunged Georgia into darkness on the night of July 24. Last time, restoring the power grid took almost the entire night.

Official versions of the causes of the first blackout have not yet been released. The operator GSE refuted reports of a failure on the power line with Turkey, and the management of the Inguri HPP also did not confirm claims about any accidents at the station.

The Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE) commented on the repeated large-scale blackout that occurred on the morning of July 25, stating that the restoration of power supply has begun.

According to the company, the system failure occurred around 08:00 local time, but by 08:05, electricity began to be gradually supplied to areas of Tbilisi and the vast majority of the country's regions. The operator promises to fully complete the restoration work "in the shortest possible time."

GSE still does not name the exact causes of either today's emergency outage or the previous blackout that occurred on the night of July 24. The company only noted that, in parallel with eliminating the consequences, they are working to determine the causes of the failure, and details will be published later.

This is the second accident in the last two days that has plunged Georgia into darkness, leading to the shutdown of the metro, trains, and problems with water supply and mobile internet. The day before, the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) convened an emergency meeting and granted a special group unlimited access to energy companies' data to conduct an independent investigation.
