Georgia has named the preliminary cause of the complete blackout that occurred last week

GNERC reported that the power outage in Georgia occurred due to a sudden disconnection from Azerbaijan's energy system. The investigation is ongoing in two directions, the SSB is checking the sabotage version.
The National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) of Georgia presented the first results of the investigation into the system failure that blacked out the entire country on the night of July 24. The outage repeated on the morning of July 25, reports UNN citing "News Georgia".

According to the regulator, at 00:10 the Georgian power system suddenly disconnected from the Azerbaijani one, with which it was operating in tandem. Left isolated, the network could not handle the load: frequency and voltage dropped sharply, power plants began to shut down en masse one after another, and the country plunged into a blackout.
The commission emphasized that the cause of the chain of failures could be the 110 kV "Geguti" power line, owned by Energo-Pro Georgia and originating from the "Kutaisi 220" substation.
At the same time, GNERC placed part of the responsibility on the State Electric System of Georgia. The regulator stated that the operator was obliged to recalculate the parameters of relay protection and automation, without waiting for a complete re-equipment of the lines, in order to minimize the risks of automatic separation from the Azerbaijani power system.
The investigation is ongoing in two directions: experts are determining the causes of the break in connection with Azerbaijan and checking the ability of the Georgian system itself to operate stably in isolated mode. At the same time, the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia has launched an investigation under the article on sabotage.
