A tanker was hit by a shell in the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of Oman. This was reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), CNN reports, writes UNN.

According to UKMTO, the incident occurred approximately eight nautical miles northeast of the city of Lima in Oman. A report of the event was received around 4:10 PM Eastern Time.
The British agency called on vessels in the area to transit with increased caution and to immediately report any suspicious activity.

Earlier, UKMTO reported that two vessels also sustained shell hits off the coast of Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations monitors shipping in the Persian Gulf, the northern Indian Ocean, and the Red Sea. According to CNN, the number of emergency reports to UKMTO has increased since the start of the war with Iran in late February.
