Makiivka

City in Donetsk Oblast
Makiivka is a city in the Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine. It is virtually adjacent to Donetsk. The city's area is defined as 456 km², and its population at the beginning of 2020 was estimated at 341,362 people. The first settlement on the site of modern Makiivka was founded in 1690, it received city status in 1920, and was later renamed Makiivka. The city is known for its large mining and processing enterprises; its economy has traditionally been based on the coal mining and metallurgical industries. Since April 2014, Makiivka has been under occupation.
