Prime Minister of Poland

Donald Franciszek Tusk was born on April 22, 1957, in Gdańsk, to a craftsman’s family. In the late 1970s, he graduated from the Faculty of History at the University of Gdańsk. While still a student, he founded the university’s first branch of the independent Solidarity trade union. He was one of the founders of the Independent Association of Polish Students. In the late 1980s, he joined the leadership of the Gdańsk Congress of Liberals. He took part in organized protests against the authorities. He served twice as Prime Minister of Poland, and after his second term headed the Council of the European Union. In 2023, he returned to Poland and took the helm of the opposition coalition, which won the parliamentary elections and brought an end to PiS’s eight-year rule. A consistent supporter of aid to Ukraine and increased defense spending: in 2025, Poland allocated 4.7% of its GDP to defense—the highest figure in Europe.
