This weekend, American and Russian officials are scheduled to meet in Miami to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine. This was reported by Politico, writes UNN.

Details

According to sources familiar with the situation, the Trump administration is increasing pressure on Kyiv regarding territorial concessions in an attempt to end the nearly four-year conflict.

Participants and agenda

On the US side, negotiations will be led by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Russian delegation will likely be headed by the head of the sovereign fund, Kirill Dmitriev.

Earlier this week, Witkoff and Kushner held meetings in Berlin with Ukrainian and European representatives, discussing security guarantees for Kyiv in exchange for abandoning immediate NATO membership.

Security guarantees against the Kremlin's ambitions

Washington offers Ukraine a promise of mutual defense, similar to NATO standards. The Trump administration hopes that Moscow will agree to Ukraine's membership in the EU and Western security guarantees as part of a final agreement. However, Vladimir Putin on Wednesday gave no signals of readiness to abandon plans to destroy Ukraine's sovereignty, and the Russian side remains adamant in its demands.

Recall

Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Ryabkov stated that Russia will not make concessions regarding the occupied territories of Ukraine. Ryabkov also said that the Kremlin will not agree to the presence of NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine, even if they are there as part of security guarantees.

The US is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia's energy sector to increase pressure on Moscow if Kremlin head Vladimir Putin rejects a peace agreement with Ukraine.

The Kremlin stated that it expects the American side to inform "about the results of work with Ukrainians and Europeans," after reports of the expected discussion of proposals developed at peace talks in Europe with the participation of American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
