“Ukrainian Legion in Poland: first volunteers sign contracts

The first group of Ukrainian Legion volunteers signed contracts in Lublin and began 35 days of basic training. The recruitment center received about 700 applications from Ukrainians from all over Europe.
The first volunteers of the Ukrainian Legion in Poland have signed contracts and started basic training, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday, UNN reports.

"Today, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin hosted a ceremony of signing contracts for the first set of Ukrainian citizens living abroad to serve in the Ukrainian Legion. After signing the contracts, a group of volunteers went to the military training ground of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland to undergo basic military training," the Defense Ministry said.
According to the representative of the Ukrainian Legion command, Lieutenant Colonel Petro Gorkusha, the basic training course will last 35 days. After that, the servicemen will be able to continue their training in selected military specialties at NATO bases in Europe.
"As of today, the Ukrainian Legion recruitment center has received almost 700 applications from Ukrainian citizens living in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland and other countries. After passing the military medical commission, relevant checks and signing contracts, they will also join the ranks of the Legion," said Gorkusha.
The basic training of recruits will be conducted under the guidance of Polish instructors using modern NATO weapons. Ukrainian Armed Forces commanders with combat experience will also take part in the training.
Consul General of Ukraine in Lublin Oleh Kuts, commenting on the signing of contracts for the first group of volunteers, said: "This is an important step that demonstrates the determination of Ukrainians who are ready to defend their homeland while abroad. Our Consulate, together with the Embassy and all Ukrainian diplomatic missions around the world, supports the Ukrainian Legion and provides comprehensive support to all those who wish to join its ranks.
The recruitment center of the Ukrainian Legion in Lublin, as indicated, continues to accept applications from Ukrainian citizens to serve in the military unit. Applications can be submitted through the official website of the Ukrainian Legion or through Ukrainian consulates and embassies in Europe.
