Details
This refers to the €45 billion EU Ukraine Support Loan. It consists of two parts:
- a military support tranche (to be received in May);
- a budget support tranche (to be received in June).
This includes €28.3 billion for defense needs and €16.7 billion to cover the budget deficit, Pidlasa noted.
She added that Ukraine will direct the military support funds toward the purchase and production of weapons.
Additional Information
The €45 billion EU Ukraine Support Loan was approved back in December 2025. However, at that time, Hungary delayed its implementation, demanding that Ukraine repair the "Druzhba" oil pipeline, which was damaged by the Russians and through which the Hungarian side, along with Slovakia, continues to receive Russian oil.
This loan was unblocked in late April, immediately after Ukraine restored oil transit through the "Druzhba" pipeline across its territory.
This loan consists of €90 billion in total. Of this, €45 billion will be provided this year, and the remainder next year. Furthermore, Ukraine will not repay the funds until it receives reparations from the Russians for the damage caused.
