Ukraine proposes to create a 30-year partnership with Canada in the energy sector and to supply Canadian LNG

Ukraine has proposed to Canada the creation of a strategic energy security bridge that would involve the supply of Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as the conclusion of a long-term cooperation agreement in the energy sector for a period of 30 years. This was reported by UNN citing the Ministry of Energy.
First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson. The parties discussed cooperation in the gas sector and nuclear energy.
We seek to diversify gas supply routes as much as possible. Ukraine proposes creating a strategic energy security bridge with Canada, focused on supplying Canadian LNG to Ukraine. Following the agreements between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney, we discussed with the Minister of Energy the preparation and advantages of concluding a long-term strategic energy agreement for 30 years
Particular attention during the talks was paid to Ukraine's preparation for the next heating season. In particular, the sides discussed the possibility of Canada providing grant support for the purchase of gas for Ukraine in the amount of 650 million Canadian dollars as part of the overall aid package this year.
In addition, the Ukrainian side proposed that Canadian suppliers use Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities for gas storage.
Shmyhal also thanked Canada for its unwavering support of Ukraine and noted the personal contribution of Minister Tim Hodgson to the development of the bilateral energy partnership.
