U.S. President Donald Trump signed a decree imposing an additional 50% tariff on a wide range of goods imported from Canada, citing Ottawa's "unfair treatment" of American automobiles, dairy products, and alcohol. This was reported by the BBC, writes UNN.

The new tariffs will take effect on August 19 and will be another step in the escalation of the trade conflict between the two countries. The White House stated that these measures are necessary to protect American businesses.
The decree states that Canada allegedly discriminates against American trade by providing more favorable conditions to other foreign partners.
The new tariffs will not affect energy carriers and critically important resources
The tariffs will apply to various categories of goods — from wine and hockey equipment to cement. At the same time, they will not extend to energy carriers, potash fertilizers, critically important minerals, and fish.
According to the BBC, the U.S. also maintains existing tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum, and copper ranging from 15% to 50%, as well as a 35% tariff on softwood lumber and a 25% tariff on non-American automotive components.
