The State Commission approved the conduct of exhumation research in several regions of Ukraine — UINP

The State Commission approved exhumation research in the Lviv, Rivne, Kyiv, Ternopil and Volyn regions. The decision was adopted to implement agreements with Poland and preserve memorial sites.

The State Interagency Commission on Commemorating the Memory of Participants in the Anti-Terrorist Operation, War Victims and Victims of Political Repression approved exhumation research in the Lviv, Rivne, Kyiv, Ternopil and Volyn regions. This was reported by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, according to UNN.
In implementation of the agreements reached by the Ukrainian-Polish Working Group on National Memory, the Commission approved exhumation research on the territory of the former village of Huta Peniatska (now within the boundaries of the Pidkamin settlement territorial community of Zolochiv district, Lviv region). Also, as part of measures to preserve Polish places of remembrance in Ukraine, the Commission approved exhumation research of the burials of people who died or went missing during the Second World War on the territory of the village of Uhly, Sarny municipal community, Sarny district, Rivne region
The Commission’s decision also supported granting permission to collect genetic material (DNA) samples from the remains buried between 1992 and 2015 at the cemetery of the former village of Ostrivky (now within the boundaries of the Rivne rural community of Kovel district, Volyn region).
In addition, exhumation research was approved for:
- the territory of the Memorial to Soviet soldiers in the settlement of Mlyniv, Dubno district, Rivne region;
- the burials of victims of the Second World War on the territory of the settlement of Borodianka, Bucha district, Kyiv region;
- the remains of Soviet servicemen from the Second World War and the postwar period in the city of Kremenets, Ternopil region;
- the remains of Soviet servicemen from the Second World War and the postwar period in the city of Volodymyr, Volyn region.
As a reminder
UINP Head Oleksandr Alfiorov stated that the procedure for obtaining exhumation permits would be accelerated as much as possible. The Commission is operating on an expedited basis following President Zelensky’s assurances.
