Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Thursday announced the end of the state of emergency declared due to fires in Avila and Madrid. Sanchez believes the response to the situation was "effective given the scale of the fire." This is reported by El Pais, writes UNN.

Despite this, the situation in the Castile and Leon region remains difficult due to another wave of abnormal heat. There, 10 active fire hotspots are still being extinguished, and the highest danger level has been declared in three districts of this region.
According to the publication, in the province of Zamora, a fire that broke out near the town of Fermoselle destroyed 11 thousand hectares of land in one day. Due to the threat of fire, rescuers evacuated over 800 residents from 14 settlements in the province to safe places.
Currently, more than fifty ground and air crews, with the support of the military, continue to tame the elements.
Meanwhile, efforts to contain already stabilized fires in Avila, Madrid, and Toledo continue this Thursday to prevent their re-ignition, and monitoring of other active fires, such as those in Castellon and Tarragona, is ongoing.
