Russia deliberately uses freedom of navigation as a military target - MFA on the attack on the vessel GOLDEN LEO

Russia deliberately uses freedom of navigation as a military target. This was emphasized by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha, who added that the Foreign Ministry is informing the International Maritime Organization and international partners about Russia's latest attacks on civilian vessels, reports UNN.

While the world community is still reacting to Russia's brutal night shelling of Kyiv, Moscow continues its terrorist campaign throughout the day. Now Russia has struck a civilian vessel that was moving along the Ukrainian maritime corridor

- Sybiha stated.

According to him, the crew included citizens of Syria and India. A Ukrainian pilot was killed, as well as four other crew members; eight crew members were evacuated, and five are still considered missing.

A civilian vessel. An international crew. A route ensuring global food security. Putin saw this as another target

- Sybiha added.

The diplomat recalled that just yesterday, Russia attacked another foreign merchant vessel flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda in the Black Sea, resulting in one death and three injuries.

Russia deliberately uses freedom of navigation as a military target... The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine informs the International Maritime Organization and our international partners about Russia's latest attacks on civilian vessels, as well as the governments of states whose citizens were killed or injured

- Sybiha stated and added.

The Acting Head of the MFA added that during the recent visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to London, he discussed this issue with the leadership of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and called for the deployment of an international monitoring mission in Ukrainian ports.

We hope that this mission will begin its work as planned in the fall and will help document every act of maritime terror by Russia, paving the way for holding those responsible accountable

- he summarized.
