Ministry of Defense procures 8,000 Octopus interceptor drones for the Defense Forces

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is purchasing 8,000 Octopus interceptors to strengthen air defense and increase the number of enemy aerial target interceptions by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense, according to UNN.

Octopus is a "Shahed"-type strike drone interceptor with automatic homing, developed within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The system has already proven its effectiveness in combat conditions

- the statement reads.

Twenty-nine Ukrainian companies that received the relevant licenses, along with the UK government, joined the production. Four manufacturers have already signed state contracts for supply.

This approach allows for the rapid scaling of technology and provides the Defense Forces with the necessary assets.

Scaling became possible thanks to a government decision that opened the transfer of military technologies to Ukrainian manufacturers. Previously, such a mechanism did not exist.

The state has systematically opened access to military developments for their scaling through the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex while preserving intellectual property rights.

The Octopus interceptor demonstrates stable effectiveness in various application conditions:

  • destroys targets day and night;
    • operates under the influence of electronic warfare (EW);
      • effective at low altitudes.

        According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, the Ministry of Defense ensures the full cycle of scaling – from technology transfer to procurement and supply to the troops. This allows for rapid production growth and meeting the needs of the front. At the same time, this represents the development of the Ukrainian defense industry and an example of effective public-private partnership, where combat technologies are quickly scaled into mass production.

        Following the President's task, we are scaling effective air defense solutions to achieve the goals: 100% detection and at least 95% neutralization of enemy aerial targets

        - summarized the head of the defense department.
