Lloyd Austin, the head of the Pentagon, opposed Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil refineries, advising Ukraine to focus on strikes that have a direct impact on the war.
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said that the Ukrainian army should focus on strikes on Russian targets that have a "direct impact on the war" rather than attacking oil refineries on enemy territory. He is quoted by Bloomberg, UNN reports.

The Pentagon chief also called on the Congress to approve additional military aid to Ukraine and emphasized that such aid would also help increase defense production in the United States, and that the money would help the defense industry.
Austin's statement about the refinery was condemned by Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who accused the White House of obstructing Ukraine's effective actions for political reasons.
